We had a banner weekend activating Keystone State Park K-2788. Activated both Saturday and Sunday and GREAT results. Video and more info to come. Getting Ready for the TARC HF Open House on November 12th at Kepplinger Hall.

Is a great way to get out and enjoy playing radio in the state and national park system. As well as learning about antennas, bands, radio power etc. Plus, it is a lot of fun just hanging out with other hams!
Grab interest
Activating Parks is also a way to promote our hobby. I usually always have someone come up and inquire about what we are doing. Take the opportunity to promote our craft. You just might meet your local Park Ranger. They seem to enjoy seeing us out there.
Pretty much any HF/VHF/UHF equipment can be used
Parks all over the country get "activated" by all types of equipment. You can find 2 meter HT's being used to activate simplex on occasion. HF is the most widely used from 5 watts up to 100 watts. SSB, Data to CW. you can use anything. It does not take much to get started. Just a desire to have fun and enjoy playing radio.
